CHICAGO, IL -- The world premiere of Brown Soup Thing did not disappoint fans, as writer/director Edward J. Mallillin's first feature film helped bring in record attendance for the Chicago Filipino American Film Festival on November 8th.

"We were thrilled to host the world premiere of Brown Soup Thing," said Program Director Jonathan Laxamana, whose 5th annual event saw a record number of fans enjoy the weekend-long festival.

Actress/star Cheryl Noe and Mallillin were greeted by fans seeking posters, t-shirts, and photo opportunities with the actress and director.  Noe, originally from Chicago, was especially excited with the film's reception.

"Premiering in Chicago was wonderful," said Noe, who also co-hosts Flipped Switch with Mallillin.  "The fans were so enthusiastic and supportive.  They made me feel right at home."

Laxamana and several fans enthusiastically noted how the film successfully presented so many different nuances and perspectives of immigrants and Asian Americans in general.

"It's not easy to demonstrate so many different points of view, but Brown Soup Thing made it look so easy," noted Ricardo Bangtok, a new fan.  "The film said so much and yet, was also really funny -- that's what makes it so great."

In addition to covering the event through the popular series Flipped Switch, Mallillin and BST were featured in episodes of ABS/CBN International's Balitang America, the Asian American Network News, and Hataw Pinoy Chicago.

Chicago fans left the movie happy and wanting more, as Mallillin confirmed the great interest in BST returning to the Windy City for an encore.

"We definitely want to come back to Chicago and see more of the Midwest," said Mallillin.  "Everybody here took great care of us and made us feel like a part of the community.  We want to thank the Filiipino American Network, the Chicago Filipino American Film Festival, and of course, Jonathan Laxamana and Larry Versola for putting together a great event that brings the community together and celebrates the achievements of Filipino Americans."
